I've just done similar thing I used a 35kg umbrella base. Me mum saying hope it don't fall into next door garden. I only got one pole on it and then 21 foot antenna Hmm Maybe I should bolt it side of shed too.

Hi Fred. I have one of these little marvels and am very pleased with it so far for the price (£53 with discount voucher). However, one feature it claims to have but doesn't is CTCSS/DCS codes. I've confirmed this with Retevis customer support and asked them to remove the information from the online and paper user manuals to avoid misleading potential buyers. Skip has been fantastic lately and I was listening to both sides of a conversation with one breaker in SW Scotland a couple of evenings ago on the MB62 on the UK band. I'm in south Cambridgeshire UK, so that's around 400 miles away. This was on a Thunderpole Orbitor antenna sitting atop a 1.5m aluminium pole hammered 10cm in to my back lawn. I've connected the braid of the coax to the aluminium pole but have no ground plane radials yet. SWR is between 1:1.2 and 1:1.5 across all UK and EU channels, so that's a good start. 😃👍

I bought one of these thinking that I might be able to learn something about them. All that I have managed to pick up so far is FM radio...which comes in nice and clear. Not what I meant it for though. The learning curve appears to be quite steep, and although I followed the EGZumer and CHIRP videos (thank you for them) and put the information in I still don't get a peep out of it. Watching a few other videos it seems all you can get are these hissy distorted voices just shouting numbers and letters to one another :) It has been interesting watching the videos, but I don't think that this is for me.

I have got several radios from them. Radioddity has great customer service . I had programming software issue and they got me TECH support in a day with a answer and fixed the problem. Even checked with me later to see if I had any more issues. They even worked with me on a outher radio to fix a error in the manual . Avoid cloud storage like the plague, you are sending your private CCTV to someone else's server, also, cameras like this regularly get made obsolete and unusable by the manufacturers, only ever buy a CCTV camera that operates on a local DVR storage system. My own system is a mix of wired 1080p AHD cameras and wired Ethernet 4k IP cams but I could also run IP cameras that connect through WiFi if I wanted, I have 1.5tb of storage which is is 9 days on my current configuration. All of my IP cameras have had the factory firmware replaced with OpenIPC firmware for privacy reasons, you cannot trust any of the Chinese manufacturers.

I realize I'm echoing another commenter, but I'm just here to bemoan the fact that, as impressive as that directional bar is, owning one is likely to become somewhat moot, shortly. RTE in Ireland pulled the plug on Long Wave just over a year ago, I think, and BBC Radio 4 has seemingly put a 'Do Not Resuscitate' order on its main Midlands LW transmitter which relies on some antique, but vital valve or crystal or some such, and in any case plan to knock LW broadcasting on the head sometime this year. As a matter of fact I'm surprised they haven't switched off already, I thought they had planned on leaving the band by about now. Of course they have probably had tons of letters from older listeners particularly, or those who, like me, are listening overseas (Ireland in my case). Notwithstanding the fact that one gets the feeling that the BBC are positively hostile to foreign and ex~pat listeners, perhaps they will do like RTE and 'dwindle it out' for some months after the originally anounced switch off date - who knows, maybe until those crucial parts give up the ghost? (lets hope!) Still, I would say, if you have this Raddy radio, you'd probably be stupid to not pick up the aerial, being free 'n all (let's hope you kept your receipt!) but otherwise, well, unless you hail from Algeria, or, I dunno, Mongolia or one of the 'Stans and wish to stay abreast of events at home (and even then, lets be frank, there's got to be easier ways), I don't know how much these retail for, but there probably isn't much point in shelling out for one of these, impressive performer that it is. Sorry Raddy, I almost feel bad for putting the mockers on it!

Nice alternative to the rather expensive Ring thing one. That other shed/cabin is better than the one nearer the house for all your radio gear, bet it be nice in there with more room. Great content as always, got a new Uniden 160DN (DMR) scanner coming from the states in the next week or two, I know you don't really do scanners as such but it looks a nice bit of kit which I'm really looking forward to getting as already got the 125XLT which is an excellent analogue scanner.

those outside solar charged anything products need to be seriously weatherproofd, i'd argue it's necessary to seal up the (charge) ports with grease and/or regular cleaning with contact cleaner. the internal battery must be accessible and replaceable, and the charge circuit must have proper overvoltage protection from the solar panel or it'll burn out. ive had all of that happen to my gear.
